What to Do in Ortigia for a Weekend: Complete 2-Day Guide

Day 1 – History, Local Flavor, and Sunset Magic

Morning: Explore the Old Town

Start at the Temple of Apollo, then head into the maze of streets. The architecture is a mix of Greek, Baroque, and timeless Mediterranean charm.

Visit the Market

Ortigia’s daily market is a feast for the senses: fresh fish, colorful produce, cheeses, spices, and local voices. Grab some snacks or lunch at Caseificio Borderi, a legendary sandwich spot.

Afternoon: Duomo & Fonte Aretusa

Head to Piazza Duomo – one of Italy’s most beautiful squares – and visit the cathedral built on ancient Greek foundations. Nearby, Fonte Aretusa is a freshwater spring with papyrus plants, right by the sea.

 Evening: Aperitivo on Lungomare Alfeo

The seafront promenade offers breathtaking sunset views. Grab a cocktail at a rooftop or seaside bar and soak in the golden hour.

Day 2 – Sea, Culture, and Local Food

Morning: Boat Tour or Sea Dip

Take a short boat tour around the island (many leave from the marina) or go for a swim off the rocks near Castello Maniace.

Late Morning: Relax & Wander

Enjoy the slow rhythm of Ortigia. Browse local boutiques, visit artisan workshops, or grab a granita with brioche.

Lunch & Goodbye

End your weekend with a long, relaxing Sicilian lunch – try pasta alla Norma, swordfish, or fresh seafood. Many great restaurants are hidden in the alleys.

All these places are just a few minutes’ walk from our sea-view apartments in Ortigia. No car needed, just pure Mediterranean living.

Experience Ortigia like a local. Book your weekend stay in one of our charming apartments in the heart of the island.
